We all knew a suspension was coming for the problematic DeMarcus Cousins after an altercation with head coach Keith Smart during halftime in Friday night’s loss to the Clippers. Cousins, who scored nine points in the first half, was told to remain the locker room for the remainder of the game at halftime.
After the game, Smart said that “it was conduct detrimental to the team and we left it at.”
Cousins also spoke after the game, saying “What happens in the locker room stays in the locker room but I was wrong,” he told reporters. “But what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room.”
As big of a supporter as Smart seems to be towards Cousins, Smart has his standards set the same for everyone on his team. He told reporters, “We’re trying to set a standard for all of our players and all our guys who are here,” Smart said after the game. “When guys don’t fall in line to that we’ve got to move on.”
In spite of his apology, the Kings indefinitely suspended their power forward on Saturday on the heels of the disaster. The Kings have yet to release how long the suspension will be.
In 23 games,Cousins is averaging 16.6 points and 9.5 rebounds this year.
