Five Niners, One Raider Leads Pro Bowl Fan Vote

The San Francisco 49ers were represented well yesterday, when the NFL released the results of the Pro Bowl fan vote. This votes counts for 1/3 towards determining the Pro Bowl rosters, with the coaches and players covering the others two-thirds.

Mike Iupati (Guard), David Akers (Placekicker), Justin Smith (Defensive Tackle), Patrick Willis (Linebacker), and C.J. Spillman (Special Teams) finished first among their respective positions. Smith received the most votes out of the five with 257,020.

The only surprise here is Akers, who has struggled mightily this season, connecting on just 25/35 field goals and ranking 30th in percentage of made field goals. The Giants’ Lawrence Tynes leads the NFC with 33 field goals made, while Kai Forbath of the Redskins leads in field goal percentage, splitting the uprights on all 15 of his attempts.

Across the bay, Oakland Raiders’ placekicker Sebastian Janikowski received 138,068 votes to top his position. He leads the AFC with 29 made field goals. He has been perfect from within 5o yards, and has nailed six field goals from beyond 50 yards this season.
