The Santa Clara Broncos defeated the Alcorn State Braves at home 70-58 to advance to the Cable Car Classic Title Game.
Marc Trasolini had 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way for the Broncos. Kevin Foster scored 12 points, while Brandon Clark had 14 points off the bench.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to separate themselves. Santa Clara had a 21-13 lead midway through, but Alcorn State fought their way back into the game. Clark’s three pointer gave the Broncos a 31-26 lead at halftime.
The Broncos pulled away in the second half, going on a 14-0 run to extend their lead to 19, highlighted by dunks from Trasolini and Robert Garrett. They coasted comfortable from there, as the Braves never got the game back into single digits.
Santa Clara shot 38 percent from the field while limiting Alcorn State to 30 percent shooting. They also forced 20 turnovers by the Braves.
The Broncos will play Wagner in the Cable Car Classic Title Game on Saturday at 8:15 pm.
“It’s a unique opportunity for us to play Wagner again tomorrow night for the championship. We look forward to the challenge,” said Bronco head coach Kerry Keating. “We didn’t shoot the ball well and had some lapses tonight so we are excited about playing again tomorrow night.”
