49ers Notes: Goldson Fined Again, Smith Likely Out vs. Seahawks

Let’s get you all caught up with the latest news on the San Francisco 49ers…

Dashon Goldson has made a habit of sending checks to the NFL league office, and today he’ll have to write up one more.

The Niners’ safety was fined $21,000 for an illegal hit on Patriots’ tight end Aaron Hernandez on Sunday night. This is his third infraction of the season, as he was docked for unnecessary roughness on Sam Bradford and taunting Marshawn Lynch, and both cost him $7,875.

Goldson says that he plans to appeal the fine, as he thought it was a clean hit on Hernandez. He claimed that he had a total of $70,000 in total fines from the NFL.

He has 64 tackles and three interceptions this season for the 49ers.

Throughout this week, we’ve been updating you on the condition of defensive tackle Justin Smith, who injured his left arm in the second half against the Patriots.

He had an MRI on Monday, and Jim Harbaugh was almost certain that he would play next week, going on a classic rant about “the cowboy saddling up.”

However, CSN reports that Smith was a spectator at practice on Thursday, casting “serious doubt” on whether he will suit up against the Seahawks.

If Smith does not play, it will snap his streak of playing in 188 consecutive games, the longest-active streak by a defensive tackle.

Ricky Jean Francois, who filled in nicely in the fourth quarter in New England, will be expected to play in the case of Smith’s absence.
