Judging by the score, this was a game that was out of reach even before the opening tipoff. The St. Mary’s Gales topped the Pacific Tigers 74-46 on Wednesday night in Moraga.

Matthew Dellavedova led the way with 17 points, eight assists, and six rebounds, while Beau Levesque chipped in 18 off the bench.

The Gaels trailed 4-0 early, but rattled off 15 straight points to take a commanding lead, and would never look back. They held Pacific to a dismal 17 points in the first half, and took a 19-point lead into halftime.

The second half saw St. Mary’s build its lead, as they never took their foot off the gas pedal. They shot the ball at 41 percent, while holding the Tigers to 32 percent. Pacific had just one made three pointer on the night, going 1-8 from beyond the arc.

“We shot it decent,” said head coach Randy Bennett. “I thought we took decent shots, but we valued the ball and took care of it.”
