A's Trade Collin Cowgill to Mets

In yet another off-season move, the A’s shipped outfielder Collin Cowgill to the New York Mets for minor league third baseman Jefry Marte.

Cowgill, who was acquired before the 2012 season in the deal that sent Trevor Cahill to Arizona, spent much of the season with the Sacramento Rivercats, the A’s Triple A affiliate. He spent 38 games in the majors and hit .269 with one home run.

Marte has slowly risen up through the Mets’ minor league system since starting in rookie ball in 2008. Last season in Double A Birmingham, Marte hit .251 with nine home runs in 129 games.

In other A’s-related news, they will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to introduce newly-signed shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima.
