The 49ers had a signature win up in New England on Sunday night, but it may have cost them one of their best defensive players.
Defensive tackle Justin Smith told reporters after the game that he was scheduled to have an MRI on Monday after sustaining an arm injury against the Patriots.
Smith missed most of the last drive with the injury, and without him, the Niners allowed the Patriots to go 80 yards on nine plays for a crucial touchdown in the final stretch.
The 12-year veteran has played in 188 consecutive games, the longest-active streak among defensive tackles. He has 64 tackles and three sacks so far this season for the 49ers.
It goes without saying that the Niners would love to have Smith healthy and playing next Sunday night against the Seahawks.
We will update you as soon as we hear of the MRI results.
