A pair of teams from Northern California brought home state titles on Friday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

Division I: Granite Bay 21, Long Beach Poly 20

The Granite Bay Grizzlies, who entered the season ranked 92nd in the state, won it all on Friday night against the heavily-favorited Long Beach Poly.

It was a tight game from start to finish, but the it would be decided by an extra point. After Long Beach Poly took a 20-14 lead with 3:47 remaining in the game, kicker Adam Daniels missed the extra point wide left.

Granite Bay then drove down the field and John Cooley scored on a three-yard touchdown. Colin Brown converted the game-winning extra point, and the Grizzlies intercepted a pass on Long Beach Poly’s final desperation drive to end all matters.

Granite Bay finishes with a 13-3 record after starting 1-3 to claim the Division I state title.

Division IV: Central Catholic 66, Santa Fe Christian 7

Central Catholic of Modesto set a record with 577 total yards and 521 rushing yards en route to a 59-point destruction of Santa Fe Christian and a state title.

They dominated in every facet of game, as the Los Angeles Times reports, “They scored on nine of 10 first-half possessions and their defense forced five turnovers and held the San Diego Section champions to 174 yards and seven first downs.”

Running back Ray Vega had a sensational game, amassing 202 yards and four touchdowns in just six carries.
