Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the A’s and shortstop Stephen Drew are discussing a one-year deal with an addition player option for 2014, and a source tells her that Drew will likely accept the deal.
Drew was acquired by the A’s at the end of July last season, and hit .250 with five home runs in 39 games. Scott Boras, Drew’s agent, said that the market for him is “ever-growing. He is looked at as the shortstop in this market.”
Also, Slusser says that the A’s will have interest in trading for Jhonny Peralta of the Tigers or signing Hiroyuki Nakajima, a free agent from Japan, if Drew is not signed.
The A’s have been searching for a shortstop since trading Cliff Pennington for Chris Young earlier in the off-season.
