Matthew Dallavedova’s 31 points led the St. Mary’s Gaels over the Drake Bulldogs on the road by the score of 88-73.
Twenty of those points came in the first half, as the Gaels burst out of the gate to take a 47-33 lead into halftime. St. Mary’s made six three- pointers in the first half, two from Dellavedova.
“Dellavedova had a tremendous first half,” said head coach Randy Bennett. “He hit some tough shots. He played a high-high level in the first half.
Drake attempted to make a comeback in the second half, cutting the lead down to seven at the 13:51 mark. But the Gaels responded by going on a 12-1 run, capped off by a Dellavadova three-pointer.
From that point on, the Gaels were on cruise control as they coasted to a double-digit victory.
“It just seemed like everytime we needed somebody to hit a shot, somebody hit one,” said Bennett.
The Gaels’ next game will be next Tuesday at home against Jackson State.
