The University of San Francisco Dons (4 – 1) host the St. John’s University Red Storm (6 – 2) tonight in a much-anticipated bi-coastal battle in the bay.
The visiting Red Storm are led by a trio of scorers in D’Angelo Harrison (21.8 ppg), JaKarr Sampson (12.5 ppg), and Phil Greene IV (12.0 ppg). Sampson leads the Red Storm in rebounding (7.0 rpg), followed by Amir Garrett (6.1 rpg) and Harrison (4.6 rpg). Greene leads in assists (7.75 apg), while reserve Chris Obekpa averages a stunning 4.38 blocks per game.
St. John’s enters tonight’s game against USF after defeating NJIT 57 – 49 in Queens, NY on Saturday.
The Dons have their own set of stat sheet stuffers. De’End Parker leads the Dons in scoring with a 19.4 average, including 12-of-17 behind the 3-point arc, good for second in the nation at 70.6%. Cole Dickerson leads the nation in rebounding, averaging a healthy 15.0 rebounds per game. Dickerson is scoring 14.8 points per game, with Cody Doolin also averaging double figures at 11.0. Tim Derksen (9.2 ppg) and Avry Holmes (8.8 ppg) round out a balanced scoring attack for the Dons. Derksen’s 4.0 rebounding average is second on the team. Doolin leads the team in assists with 5.6 assists per game.
The Dons defeated the Montana Grizzlies 78 – 68 last Friday in War Memorial Gym.
