The Santa Clara Broncos host the UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos tonight in the Leavey Center. The Gauchos enter the game with a 2 – 4 record, after losing to the Wyoming Cowboys 68 – 40 Wednesday in Santa Barbara. Sophomore center Alan Williams and redshirt freshman Taran Brown lead the Gauchos in scoring at 14.0 points per game. Williams also leads in rebounding with 8.3 per game, with Brown second at 6.0 a game. On defense, Williams leads the Gauchos in blocked shots with 2.7 per game. Shooting guard Kyle Boswell leads the perimeter attack and averages 8.3 points per game, while point guard Nate Garth leads the Gauchos in assists averaging 3.3 per game.
Coach Bob Williams is in his 15th season as UCSB head coach, after leading the Gauchos to a CIT berth last season, where the Gauchos lost to Idaho 86 – 83 in the first round.
The Broncos enter tonight’s match up with a record of 5-1 after Utah State handed the Broncos their first loss of the season 80 – 78 in an overtime thriller at the Leavey Center. The Broncos are led by fifth-year seniors Kevin Foster and Marc Trasolini. Foster averages 21.7 points per game, and Trasolini averages 16.8 points. Evan Roquemore checks in at 12.7 points per game and also leads the team with 6.5 assists per game, with Foster and Brandon Clark dishing out 4.17 and 3.33 assists per game, respectively. Raymond Cowells III rounds out a balanced attack with an average of 8.3 points per game. On the boards, Trasolini leads with 7.3 rebounds per game, with sophomore Yannick Atanga contributing 4.8 rebounds a game. Forwards John McArthur and Robert Garrett gather in 3.5 and 3.3 rebounds per game, respectively.
