A week ago, the San Jose Spartans were officially ranked as a BCS team, No. 25 in the country. Today, even better news came when it was announced that the Spartans accepted an invitation to play in the Military Bowl.
Their opponent has not yet been determined, but it will take place on December 27 in Washington D.C.
The Spartans went 10-2 in the regular season.. Led by outstanding quarterback David Fales and head coach Mike MacIntyre, San Jose State has accomplished what no one thought they would: become a ranked team and play in a bowl game.
MacIntyre, who resurrected his program when he came over from Duke in 2010, could not have been more proud of his team:
This is exciting news for San Jose State, this football program and, in particular, our seniors, our fans, our alumni, our students, our conference and the city of San Jose. This team accomplished so much in so many ways this season and now we have another an opportunity to continue to our season in the Military Bowl.
We have a chance to win 11 games. The last time that was done at San Jose State here was before World War II and our players, coaches and staff are ready to get started.
This marks the first time since 2006 that the Spartans were in a bowl game, when they won the New Mexico Bowl over the Lobos.
