San Francisco 49ers’ defensive tackle and tight end Demarcus Dobbs was arrested on early Friday morning, a few hours into his 25th birthday, on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana, ESPN reports.
CHP Patrol Officer D.J. Sarabia told CSN that Dobbs “wrecked his car on southbound San Tomas Expressway near Scott Boulevard in Santa Clara at 3:45 a.m. He sustained no injuries. He was the only person in his car.”
Dobbs was released from custody later in the day and faces misdemeanor charges.
Meanwhile, the 49ers released a statement saying Dobbs will not make the trip to St. Louis to play the Rams this Sunday.
Dobbs is one of the 49ers’ top special team players, participating on every unit on special teams. He is also a reserve defensive end and tight end.
The native of Savannah, Georgia, made the team in 2011 after going undrafted.
