The A’s have announced that they have acquired relief pitcher Chris Resop from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for minor-leauge pitcher Zach Thornton.

Drafted by the Marlins in the fourth round in 2004, Resop has bounced around in the league quite a bit, playing for four different teams in eight season.

Last season, Resop was 1-4 with a 3.91 ERA in 73,2 innings pitched with the Pirates. Over his career, he owns a 9-11 record with a 4.51 ERA.

Bottom line, Resop will be just another addition to a pitching staff that is rock-steady and should be one of the best in baseball.

Thornton was drafted by the A’s in the 23rd round of the 2010 Amateur Draft. He spent last season with Single A Stockton, where he was 4-0 with a 4.53 ERA in 48 games.
