Update, 4:02 PM – All signs are pointing to McClain being released by the Raiders tomorrow, according to Vic Tafur.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland Raiders’ linebacker Rolando McClain posted this on his Facebook wall today: “Officially no longer an Oakland Raider!!,” then clarified by posting, “Well technically I am. But I’m mentally done. Just waiting on my papers”
Today was the last day for NFL teams to cut players from the roster, and as the deadline passed, McClain’s name was not on the list.
The Raiders are maintaining that McClain is still on the roster, but apparently he thinks otherwise.
McClain was the eighth pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, and many had high hopes for him when he arrived in Oakland. Unfortunately, bad performance on and off the field has led many to believe that he may be out of a job soon. He was arrested in November of 2011 when he allegedly pointed a gun a man’s head, and threatened to kill him before firing it beside his ear.
In 11 games this season, McClain has recorded 60 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and no interceptions.
The posts have since been removed from his Facebook page, but not before McClain took a shot at the Raiders: “I’m gonna weigh my options. Looking forward to playing for an actual ‘team’.”
