The Oakland A’s have reached an agreement with reliever Pat Neshek on a one-year deal to avoid arbitration.
Neshek, a submariner, was acquired late last season from the Baltimore Orioles for next to nothing, but played a pivotal role out of the bullpen for the A’s down the stretch, contributing to their run to the postseason.
Neshek finished the year at 2-1 with a 1.37 ERA in 19.2 innings pitched. He has been in the league since 2006 and has played for the Twins and Padres.
During the playoffs, Neshek retired the only two batters he faced in Game 2 of the ALDS following the untimely death of his newborn son, 23 hours after birth.
