It was easy pickings for the Cal Bears on Sunday night down in Anaheim as they defeated the Pacific Tigers 78-58 to win the DirecTV Classic Championship.
Once again, the two-headed monster of Allen Crabbe and Justin Cobbs led the Bears to victory, as both scored over 20 points and played over 30 minutes. All five Cal starters had great nights, which was key in tonight’s win.
The Bears had the lead throughout the game, and had a 17-point advantage at one point in the first half. The lead was 41-27 at halftime.
Pacific, who had upset Xavier and St. Mary’s en route to the championship game, put up a fight in the second half. Led by Ross Rivera, who finished with 13 points, the Tigers cut the lead to five on a Khalil Kelley jumper with 6:51 remaining in the game. Tough defense and energy by Pacifc got them back in the game.
However, Crabbe and Cobbs would prove to be too much for the underdogs, as Cal finished on a 19-4 run to rout the Tigers by 20 points and win the DirecTV Classic Championship.
Cobbs was named the MVP of the DirecTV Classic, and Crabbe made the all-tournament team.
“I’m very excited with the group of guys that we have,” said Crabbe. “I think we can be something special.”
The Bears are a perfect 6-0 on the season, and will have a full week off before traveling to Wisconsin to play the Badgers on December 2nd.
