With a 68-57 win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Cal Bears advanced to the DirectTV Classic final down in Anaheim.
Despite an off-night from superstar Allen Crabbe, who finished with just 13 points, the Bears received contributions from Justin Cobbs (17 points), Richard Solomon (12 points), and Tyrone Wallace (11 points).
The Bears got off to somewhat of a slow start in the first half, and trailed 34-33 at halftime.
It was an extremely tight game until midway through the second half, until Cal went on a huge run, as the Mercury News describes,”They relied on a 16-3 run to build a 54-44 lead with 8:09 remaining on freshman Tyrone Wallace’s three-point play off a spectacular drive underneath the basket.”
Cal advances to 5-0 for the second time under Mike Montgomery. They will play in the title game on Sunday against the University of the Pacific, which upset St. Mary’s to make it into the final.
