Chris Mortenson is reporting that San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Alex Smith was not cleared by doctors to start tonight in Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears.

Smith apparently did not pass the “contact” test that doctors administered, which means that backup Colin Kaepernick will get the start under the bright lights at Candlestick.

Smith suffered a concussion in last week’s game against the St. Louis Rams, and he was replaced by Kaepernick in the second half. The game resulted in a 24-24 tie.

Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler is also out with a concussion that was caused by a hit to the head in last Sunday night’s game against the Texans. Backup Jason Campbell will get the nod for Chicago, giving this Monday Night matchup the infamous title, “The Concussion Bowl.”
