The Giants continued to gain momentum with the playoffs nearly a week away. Ryan Vogelsong yielded the Padres to no earned runs, and Pablo Sandoval hit a key two-run double in the third inning to secure their third straight win.
Vogelsong started off the first inning by allowing two hits, plus some loud outs. Although, he escaped the inning unscathed. He created a mess in the second inning as well, allowing two batters to reach, but from the third inning on, he didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning which would end up being his final inning.
Buster Posey hit a leadoff triple in the second inning. It was Posey’s first triple of the season and third of his young career. The catcher also doubled in the game. Hunter Pence drove home Posey by beating out an infield single.
Ryan Vogelsong and Marco Scutaro reached base in the third inning to set the table for Sandoval. Sandoval laced a line drive in the left field gap, scoring both Vogelsong and Scutaro.
The Padres scratched out a run in the sixth thanks to an error by Brandon Belt. Belt juggled a ground ball to begin the chaos. He proceeded to throw high to the shortstop Brandon Crawford as the ball sailed into left field, allowing a runner to advance to third.
Madison Bumgarner takes the ball tomorrow as the Giants battle the Padres again from Petco.
