Well now it’s official, and its the news that nobody in the Oakland Raiders organization or fan base wanted to hear. Top return man and wide receiver Jacoby Ford, will undergo surgery to repair his left foot that he injured on August 17th against the Arizona Cardinals.
The news was announced earlier today by head coach Dennis Allen. He told the media that after Ford was behind schedule on his recovery, he went to visit a specialist in North Carolina, and it was shortly after that visit that he decided to go ahead with the surgery. He is expected to be out for a while. as the Raiders are reportedly considering placing him on a new short-term injured reserve list, which would hold him out of playing for a minimum of six weeks.
It’s disappointing to find out this news about a key part of Oakland’s offense, someone who has nearly 750 receiving yards in two seasons and who also has taken four kickoffs to the house for touchdowns. The Raiders will presumably fill in Ford’s shoes as a receiver with either one of their two new promising rookies, Rod Streater (who started in last night’s season opener) or Juron Criner. As for kickoffs, Taiwan Jones, back-up running back, will most likely start to see more touches.
